Polar Bear Ride “Chapter P” 1/1/08
This New Years day morning I very slowly arose to go on our Polar bear ride. The first thing I checked was the temp 29 degrees & looking out the window it was very dark. No, I couldn't go back to bed, so with undue excitement I dressed & headed out for CJ's in Antioch where we would meet to ride to San Andreas. As I drove over Kirker Pass, it was very foggy & about 40 mph winds which blew the fog horizontally looking just like big rain showers but no water so that wasn't so bad. I arrived at CJ's a little early so went in to the service station & got a cup of coffee to get thoroughly awake. Low & behold at about 20 minutes to eight (our departure time) everyone started showing up & by the time we were ready to leave we had 10 riders.
Rich Mc Millen showed with his group and things started looking good. Our leaving time was eight AM, so Rich & his group left a little early & at eight we headed out for San Andreas. That way we didn't have one great big group on the highway.
The weather stayed in the thirty’s, with sporadic fog until we got beyond Lodi & then it cleared up & got warmer about 40 degrees, which was warm after leaving home. We arrived around 10 AM & got there ahead of Rich & his group, (slow pokes).
The breakfast was a great success. It was the largest group they ever had (102), the largest before that was 70. After a great breakfast they had drawings for a whole bunch of goodies, I think almost everyone got something. After the meal, drawings & chatting with old friends, a lot up from Fresno so of course the Blossom trail ride was on the agenda which will possibly be our next ride, we headed for home.
We took a different route, over through Jackson, Ione & Galt & on to the Sacramento River & home through Antioch & everyone gradually dropping off as we went by their homes. A great ride. Oh yes, the weather turned nice & warm for our ride home.
Everybody was happy & we are looking forward to our next ride
