First let me start out by thanking all of the Oregon Chapter members who participated and helped to give a friendly welcome to the California people at the B-B-Q Friday 22 June 2007. Second, let me extend a really big thank you to the California people for making the trip to Oregon to promote friendship, help Judy and I celebrate our 45th anniversary and just have a great time.
Everyone thanked Judy and I for opening our home but actually it was all those who participated that made it a fantastic party and memorable occasion. I also wish to thank Larry, from the Cottage Café in Rogue River, for donating his time and expertise at the grill. I attempted to pay Larry for his service but he refused and said that he really likes being a part of such a great group and that it was fun to participate. I know of no better way to celebrate our anniversary than with a great bunch of friends.
It really didn't start out to be an Anniversary Celebration. Judy and I were asked, while at the California Chapter P Christmas Party, if we were planning another get together like we had in May 2006. We hadn't really thought about it but I did say we would consider another event. After some thought, we came up with the idea of sharing a Jet Boat Dinner Ride on the Rogue River.
Next we had to find a compatible date that would fit the busy schedule for both North and South. One or the other or both Chapters were booked every weekend we looked at. We finally looked at the 23rd of June and it looked like it would work except it was our anniversary. I told Judy that there was no better way to celebrate than with friends and was that ever a great idea.
We had a fantastic time and really enjoyed every one's company. The lack of rain and abundance of sunshine also helped. One casualty was the death of Herb's starter but that was nothing we couldn't overcome.
Everyone got up early Saturday morning to have breakfast at the Cottage Café, my way of thanking Larry, and then we went downtown to stroll the streets of Grants Pass and check out all of the shops. Lots of pictures were taken of the artwork downtown and of the old buildings. After the stroll we thought DQ sounded like the place to visit so off we went and then to my house to meet up with the local group and head down to the boat dock for our river trip with Captain Rick on the Kelly Marie.
The boat trip down the Rogue River in a jet boat was exciting and then the stop at the OK Corral for a family style dinner was excellent. The evening return trip, back up the Rogue, was even more exciting and the Skipper had a great sense of humor. Virginia didn't even get her hair wet. Most were at least a little wet, some from the spray and others from the help of ...friends?
Oh well, it was all in fun and if I threatened any one's life as pay back it was only in jest. (But I'll get you at a later time..Payback). Sunday Morning some headed back home and others went on local rides to see the beautiful scenery here in So. Oregon.
Van, Dee, Larry, Mary, Judy and I went to Seven Feathers Casino in Canyonville to make a contribution to the Indians and then returned to Grants Pass where they treated Judy and I to a great Mexican Dinner.
Thank you everyone for making our 45th Anniversary one of the best ever and remember that our house is always open to such great friends,
Don & Judy
P.S. It was mentioned that maybe the South would rise again and invite the North to come South next year?
