5/26-28/07 GWTA State Reunion Mariposa CA.

On Friday the 26th I met Leonard in Walnut Creek at 7:00 am & we headed south on hwy 680 & on down to hwy 132, where we met George & Ella at the Orchard west of Modesto. After greetings we then continued east & south to Merced where we stopped for breakfast & fuel, after getting all that taken care of, we then continued east on hwy 140 to Mariposa to the state reunion.

After getting our rooms we then went out to the fairgrounds to register. When we pulled in, we began to think we were there on the wrong day as there were only three bikes there. We realized that most of the (172 registered folks) were in the campgrounds in the fairgrounds. After getting checked in, we returned to our rooms to get settled in & then looked the town over & returned to the fairgrounds to visit with all our friends that we hadn't seen since our last rally.

We watched a game of dirty bingo for awhile, then went out to dinner & retired to our rooms to rest up for tomorrow. Saturday After breakfast, we went out to the fairgrounds for the opening ceremonies, then got lined up for the ride to Yosemite that was lead by Harry & Karen. They arrived later than the rest of us because Karen had to work late, but they made it & now were going to lead us into the Park.

There were about 40 bikes so we were split into two groups. Half went around through Oakhurst & on hwy 41 to Glacier point & the rest of us went up hwy 140. The weather was nice & warm & the ride along the Merced River was beautiful.

The river was still running full & there was many river rafters riding the rapids (Fun) When we arrived at the gate it was quite crowded with automobiles so we were detained for a short while getting in & then went directly up to Chinquepin & then up to Glacier point. The parking lot was completely full so we pulled into one of the tour bus spaces (I think we got eight bikes in that spot) & then we went to see the views of the valley. Tanaya valley (named for Chief Tanaya), Vernal & Nevada falls, Half Dome, little Yosemite Valley, big Yosemite Valley & much more.

When we returned to the valley it was so crowded that we decided to return to Mariposa. It was late afternoon when we returned, so those that were camping, returned for grazing & the rest of us went to town for dinner then went back out to play dirty bingo, completing another day.

Sunday morning breakfast was served at the rally. Pancakes, ham, bacon & eggs (good breakfast), after which was church services & then another group gathered for a ride to Yosemite. In the afternoon was the bike show. There was a good showing & some beautiful bikes. In the late afternoon was the closing ceremonies & many awards given out & introductions of our new officers & a sad farewell to our old ones that were leaving. After which the evening concluded with an ice cream social & the goodbye to all until the next rally which will be in Sioux Falls S.D.

     See you there! Herb.
